Boating Vacations
"How many kinds of boating vacations can you think of?"
A boating vacation could become one of your favorite crowd-free vacations. Granted, many lakes and reservoirs are quite busy and crowded in the summer months. But the key is to find one that's not so well known or just enjoy the solitude while out on the lake - which is a big reason many people go boating. Utah has many lakes and reservoirs where various kinds of boating activities are available. You probably have plenty in the your "neck of the woods" also. I'll cover some that are close to me to give you an idea of what's available for boating, camping, lodging, and activities. And you are more than welcome to come to Utah and enjoy our lakes and reservoirs.
The Great Salt Lake
The Great Salt Lake
- where the colorful sails against the robin-egg blue sky are a daily sight. This is a virtual inland sea with the Bear River flowing into the lake and no outlet at all. Thus its name and its briney content.
The northern end of the lake is fresh water because the Bear River flows in at that point. The farther south you go, the saltier the water becomes. The northern end is also a great place to take your motor boat and water ski.
Bear Lake, UT - the "Caribbean of the Rockies"

Bear Lake in Utah
is one of the most beautiful turquoise-blue lakes you will ever see - maybe the ONLY one. There are lots of activities available on and around this lake and resort area, from camping, boating, sailing, and golfing, to white, sandy beaches and swimming.
Lake PowellProbably the most famous lake in the West (which is partly in Arizona) is Lake Powell. Motor boating and water skiing are popular there but the most fun is renting a houseboat. Houseboats are a wonderful way to explore the natural wonders of the Lake and get into all the nooks and crannies that would otherwise be inaccessible. Renting a houseboat on Lake Powell is definitely the best of boating vacations.
