Camping is a bonding family time.
"Do you remember going camping as a child?"
I sure do. I may be telling my age, but when I was a child, we didn’t have any of today's warm and comfy sleeping bags.My dad owned one "army" sleeping bag and a several wool "army" blankets which he used to make beds for us. He heaped up pine needles for a mattress. That’s right - pine needles - they’re softer than the hard ground. Really! Then he folded the blankets in such a way that we were completely enclosed on three sides.
Then the best part! Climbing into our homemade beds, I can still feel the warmth on my feet from the rock heated in the fire and wrapped in newspaper. Gazing up into the night sky awash in stars and the cool breeze blowing across our faces, Dad would tell us scary stories, or if we begged a little, stories of his childhood. Oftentimes we would sit around the fire and sing childhood songs or, my Dad's favorites, cowboy songs.
