Colorado Motorcycle Rides

Colorado motorcycle rides are some of the best in the country. Why? Well, the mountains, of course. There are so many great roads that twist and turn with three-dimensional terrain.

Horsepower Hill

One of our favorites is what the sport bike community calls "Horsepower Hill". If you start in Colorado Springs, take Highway 24 to Woodland Park. From there go north on Highway 67; stay on 67 to Deckers. There are plenty of twisties on this part of the ride to make it enjoyable, but it is a 2-lane highway, so watch for vehicles around blind curves.

The road from Woodland Park and several miles from the town is quite heavily patrolled, especially in the spring on good weather days.

From Deckers, take Highway 126. The road forks into three roads - take the middle one. (Not the dirt road.) This part climbs in elevation and the road is quite a narrow 2-lane, and watch for sand and rocks on the road that have come down from the hillsides.

After several miles of climbing upward, the road opens into a wide, uphill two-lane and with some sweeping turns - perfect to practice a little lean.

Not only is this an awesome twisty ride, the scenery is breathtaking. If you're interested in inhaling the clean air and scoping out the scenery, take it slow. Or better yet, take a cruiser or touring bike instead of a sport bike.

We have never seen any patrols on most of the route, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Be cautions - but have fun. It is worth the long ride to get there.

You can either go back the way you came, or continue on all the way to Denver. Highway 126 comes out on Highway 285 which eventually joins 470 and takes you to I-25.
