Motorcycle Road Trips

Because we love motorcycle road trips, we are constantly searching for interesting, challenging or scenic rides.

My husband has been riding motorcycles for many years and has approximate 90,000 miles "in-the-saddle". He has owned eight motorcycles (he has two right now) and I'm on my third (I have one).

HERE'S A GREAT TIP:

How to Avoid Speeding Tickets
While Traveling

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 We each have a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 sport bike so the places we look for must have a fairly smooth road surface, very little sand, dirt or rocks, few chuck holes (none is better!), no road construction and, the desired sweeping curves.

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 It is also ideal if there are not too many "Cagers", as motorcycle enthusiasts call cars and trucks. Too much traffic can be dangerous - drivers frequently don't see a motorcycle at all. We ride as though we are invisible to others.

We also have a Yamaha FJR1300 touring bike. We love to take either day trips or overnighters on this bike. We have an intercom system and adequate luggage for a 3 or 4-day trip.

Yamaha FJR 1300 I'm sure you can't see them all in this small photo below, but some "little friends" caught a ride on our last 3-day trip - about a million of them - mosquitoes and gnats mostly! It was disastrous, both for them and for us. We had to scrub and scrub to get them off. Did you know that dead bugs smell like dead fish? We didn't - but we do now!

We have taken many motorcycle road trips in parts of Colorado and Utah. For me as the back-seat rider, the sight-seeing aspect is fantastic. For my husband, his sightseeing is limited to a glance up from the road or traffic from time to time. But he doesn't complain because he loves the feeling of flying and the sense of freedom that piloting a motorcycle gives him. So do I!

The rides listed here may be familiar to some of you and some may be new. I hope you take the opportunity to get away from it all and "fly" along these roads and enjoy them like we have.

Motorcycle Road Trip up Mt. Evans in Colorado
Eight o'clock in the morning is early for us to leave the house on a Saturday, but for this motorcycle road trip, it was necessary. Mount Evans is known as the "road into the sky". At 14,264 feet you will definitely feel as though you are up in the sky.
