Romantic Getaway Ideas
Today is Valentine's Day and my thoughts turn to LOVE.
So I came up with some romantic getaway ideas that you can incorporate into your relationship any time - not just on Valentine's Day.There are so many ways to create a romantic experience and they don't have to cost a lot of money. Just look around your city, countryside or just a few miles away. It's not really the place that makes it romantic, it's what you do while you're there. I'm not just talking about . . . you know . . . fooling around, although that's usually the end result of a romantic getaway.
So let's see how many romantic getaway ideas we can come up with. I live in Utah, so the specific places mentioned are in Utah. But I hope to spark your imagination and motivate you to look around your own area for romance.
1. Rent a small houseboat and find a secluded beach at Lake Powell to park it. Fix a romantic candlelit dinner, then take a dip in the warm water. Is there a lake somewhere around where you live? Or maybe you live by the ocean. That will work!
2. Wait for a full moon and hike to the top of a dune at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and bask in the moonlight. Now I know there are sand dunes in several western states, specifically Colorado at Great Sand Dunes National Park. That would be an awesome place to be in the moonlight. We have camped there and hikes the dunes. It just wasn't in the moonlight. 3. Find the most remote campsite at Kodachrome Basin State Park, pitch a tent and then sit by the campfire, surrounded by the state park's stunning rock formations.
Is there a great state park near you? Or maybe just a canyon with some great campgrounds in your area. Just you, your love and the campfire. Sounds romantic doesn't it?
4. Go cross-country skiing in Logan Canyon and have a picnic lunch. Then head to Crystal Hot Springs in Honeyville for a sunset soak. Spend the night at the romantic Alaskan Inn up Odgen Canyon. If you live in snow country, this is definitely a possibility for you. Is there a romantic lodge or cabin you can rent somewhere close by? Make a reservation. 5. Hike to the Delicate Arch at sunset (that's in Arches National Park near Moab, UT) and find a secluded spot where you and your love can snuggle. Now you know that snuggling is romantic. You don't have to be in Arches NP to do that. Find a secluded spot and snuggle away. 6. Rent one of the yurts at East Canyon State Park, just for the two of you. Share a dinner next to the warm stove, open the skylight to enjoy the night sky and share a sleeping bag for two.
Where is there a place near you that you could share a sleeping bag and the night sky? Yurts are fun and interesting but not very common. A tent would work just as nicely.
7. Take several days to enjoy a canoe trip for two down Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River. You'll find secluded sand bars and beaches where you can swim in the warm water and sleep under the stars. Any rivers close to you where you could do a canoe trip? Or even a rafting trip would be fun. 8. Find a lake in the High Uintas Wilderness Area - there are hundreds to choose from - and set up camp. Spend the evening cuddling and enjoying the quiet. It's camping again. Is there a quiet place not too far from you? Check it out. 9. Take a sailboat or powerboat out on the Great Salt Lake. Park it at sunset and enjoy a quiet dinner. Any lake will do if you have one not too far from where you live. 10. Spend the day cross-country skiing at The Homestead, Soldier Hollow or Wasatch Mountain State Park. Take a soak in The Homestead Crater or their hot spring fed pool. Enjoy a quiet dinner at one of the nice Midway (Utah) restaurants, or at The Homestead restaurant on the grounds. Cap the night with a horse-drawn sleigh ride at the Homestead and then spend the night in one of their cottages. You may not live near enough to visit The Homestead but there may be something like it near you. The Homestead is a resort where you can golf, swim, snorkel and skuba dive in the warm water crater, rent bicycles, have dinner, and stay the night. Look for a resort near you where you can have a romantic evening or weekend.
