Romantic Getaway Ideas

"I love you, not for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you."
Roy Croft

There are so many romantic getaway ideas that don't have to cost a lot of money. Create your romantic experience by looking around your city, countryside or just a few miles away. It's not really the place that makes it romantic, it's what you do while you're there. I'm not just talking about . . . you know . . . fooling around, although that's usually the end result of a romantic getaway.

So let's see how many romantic getaway ideas we can come up with. I live in Utah, so the specific places mentioned are in Utah. But I hope to spark your imagination and motivate you to look around your own area for some romantic getaway ideas.

Lake Powell

1. Rent a small houseboat and find a secluded beach at your favorite lake and park it. Fix a romantic candlelit dinner, then take a moonlight dip.

Is there a lake somewhere around where you live? Or maybe you live by the ocean. That will work, as long as you can find a private place to park your boat.

2. Wait for a full moon and hike to the top of a mountain or sand dunes if you have that kind of terrain near you.

In Southern Utah, the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park would be perfect. In Colorado, Great Sand Dunes National Park would be an awesome place to be on a moonlit night. We have camped there and hiked the dunes - it just wasn't in the moonlight.

3. Find the most remote campsite at any State Park, pitch a tent and then sit by the campfire, surrounded by the park's stunning scenery.

Is there a great state park near you? Or maybe just a canyon with some great campgrounds in your area. Just you, your love and the campfire. Sounds romantic doesn't it?

4. Go cross-country skiing and have a picnic lunch. Then head to some hot springs for a sunset soak. Spend the night at the romantic inn or lodge.

If you live in snow country, this is definitely a possibility for you. Is there a romantic lodge or cabin you can rent somewhere close by? Make a reservation.

5. Take several days to enjoy a canoe trip for two down a nearby river. Find secluded sand bars and beaches where you can swim in the warm water and sleep under the stars.

Any rivers close to you where you could do a canoe trip? Or even a rafting trip would be fun.

boating

6. Take a sailboat or powerboat out on a nearby lake, like the Great Salt Lake or Bear Lake in Utah. Park it at sunset and enjoy a quiet dinner.

Any lake will do if you have one not too far from where you live.
