The Taos Ski Resort in New Mexico is the perfect place for romantic getaways. It's small compared to ski destinations like Vail, CO or Park City, UT - which makes it the perfect place to get away from the crowds.

Our favorite place to stay is the Columbine Inn & Conference Center - in the summer especially. The air smells of wild flowers and sun-warmed pine.
The Inn has several hummingbird feeders around the property which attract many, many of these tiny birds. We are always fascinated watching them buzz overhead. In the evenings, we love to sit out on their large, well-furnished patio with the huge outdoor fireplace and just watch the hummingbirds and the sunset.

The mountain lodge is owned and operated by avid skiers and outdoor enthusiasts, Paul and Susie Geilenfeldt. They are a young couple who have obviously worked very hard to remodel this inn since they bought it several years ago.
They are not the usual type owners - the ones you never see like most chain motels. No, Paul and Susie give personalized service. They are often there to greet you as you check in. They personally prepare the buffet breakfast (included in the price) most mornings. Although they are extremely busy, they always take time to stop and chat for a moment as they pass you on the way to their next task.
The rooms are warm and comfortable with beautiful wood-beamed ceilings and tasteful decor

We have visited there many times and we love their king room with its expanse of south-facing windows! Perfect for warming the entire room in the winter.
We have also stayed in the queen and loft rooms. All are spacious and inviting with amenities such as a refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, and more.
By staying up in the mountains of the Taos Ski Resort, and particularly at the Columbine Inn, you get the best of two worlds - a quiet, romantic getaway and the city not too far away.
Taos (the city) is very eclectic with something for everyone - shopping (oh yes!) and great restaurants to fit every budget and taste. Be sure and check out all the activities and events on the Columbine Inn website. There are plenty of fun things to do and see!
