Columbine Inn & Conference Center
- in the summer especially. The air smells of wild flowers and sun-warmed pine. The Inn has several hummingbird feeders around the property which makes watching them fascinating as there are many, many of these tiny birds buzzing overhead. In the evenings, we love to sit out on their large, well-furnished patio with the huge outdoor fireplace and just bird watch.
The mountain lodge is owned and operated by avid skiers and outdoor enthusiasts, Paul and Susie Geilenfeldt. They are a young couple who have obviously worked very hard to remodel this inn since they bought it several years ago. These are not owners that you never see - like the chain motels. No, Paul and Susie give personalized service like greeting you as you check in, preparing the free buffet breakfast every morning, and taking time to chat as they pass you inside or out on their way to their next task. And they live on site.
The rooms are warm and comfortable with beautiful wood-beamed ceilings and tasteful decor. We have visited there for four years straight and we love their king room with its expanse of south-facing windows! Perfect for warming the entire room in the winter. We have also stayed in the queen and loft rooms. All are spacious and inviting with many amenities. By staying up in the mountains of the Taos Ski Resort, and particularly at the Columbine Inn, you get the best of two worlds - a quiet, romantic getaway and the city not too far away.
