Powder Mountain Resort
The photo at the left was taken of the first snow of the season - October 2007! Location: Eden, Utah - 55 miles north of Salt Lake International Airport and 19 miles from Ogden. Description: Locals have always considered Powder Mountain as their private powder stash, but the secret has been leaked out. Powderhounds can rest assured they can still find plenty of fresh snow, with 5,500 skiable acres. Test out your fat skis and powder boards on the 1,200 acres of powder country and take the shuttle back to the lifts. Or, ride in the heated cabin of the snowcat to Lightning Ridge's trees, chutes and bowls. For extreme adventure, try out the heliskiing. Dining Options at the Resort: Timberline Lodge (upper level), the largest restaurant on the mountain serves cafeteria style for efficient service. Hidden Lake Lodge, at the top of Hidden Lake lift makes this the most popular lunch spot on the mountain. Sundown Lodge has cold and hot sandwiches, fries and snacks are available from morning to night. Powder Keg is located on the lower level of the Timberline Lodge. Snowbasin
Location: Snowbasin is 33 miles north of Salt Lake City. Take I-15 northbound and exit to northbound US-89 (exit #324). Merge to I-84 eastbound and exit at Mountain Green (exit #92). Continue east on Old Highway and turn left on State Road 167 heading north (just east of the Sinclair station). Turn left on State Road 226 heading west and proceed approximately three miles to Snowbasin. Description: Snowbasin's 2,959 vertical feet of ski trails, powder bowls and lush glades cover over 2,800 acres and truly offer terrain to suit everyone's needs. Our 104 designated runs include 7 percent novice terrain, 29 percent intermediate, 34 percent expert and 30 percent expert only. The runs are long & wide, blanketed with an average 400 inch yearly snowfall,with 12 lifts, including two high-speed gondolas, two handle tows, one magic carpet and a detachable quad, providing a lift capacity of over 14,500 skiers per hour, meaning less time in line. Nordic trails are also available for Nordic skiing and snowshoe enthusiasts. The Superpipe and three terrain parks are perfect for winter sports enthusiasts of all levels. Dining Options at the Resort: Earl's Lodge Dining Room, Earl's Lodge Huntington Room, and Earl's Lodge Lounge are all located in different areas of Earl's Lodge. Snowbird
Location: Located 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is North America’s most accessible year-round resort. Description: Snowbird averages 500 inches of the “Greatest Snow on Earth” and offers Utah’s longest ski and snowboard season. There are nearly 900 lodging rooms between four lodges, 15 restaurants and five bars. Skiing and snowboarding on 2,500 acres, Aerial Tram rides, a world-renowned children’s program based in the Cliff Lodge, snowmobile tours, snowshoeing, ice skating, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms, live music, shopping, adventure lectures and movies are only a sampling of the activities available. The first of its kind in North America, Snowbird’s new 600-foot tunnel houses a conveyor lift that transports skiers and riders from Peruvian Gulch into Mineral Basin. The new tunnel and lift make intermediate terrain more accessible to skiers and riders. Solitude
Location: Solitude is 12 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon, just 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Park free at the mouth of the canyon in the designated parking area and take a short bus ride to Solitude. Description: Solitude boasts 1,200 acres of uncrowded terrain. Forget lift lines, forget crowded runs and over-tracked snow, and come experience a solitude no other resort can offer. Solitude’s expert grooming goes the extra mile to ensure fresh corduroy adorns the mountain each morning on a variety of runs. The Children’s Academy is a fun atmosphere and small group sizes. They help children improve their technique and develop more confidence on the snow. The fun and learning isn’t limited to children, as the adult workshops, lessons and private sessions are beneficial at any age. The Nordic Center is a diversion for everyone. The center offers 20 forested kilometers of groomed terrain for classic and skate skiing, marked snowshoe trails, plus rentals and lessons for each discipline. Sundance
Location: Sundance is only an hour's drive from Salt Lake City and 45 minutes from Park City. Exiting the SLC/Airport, turn right onto I-80 east. Then turn right onto I-215 heading south. Next take I–15 South towards Provo. Continue on I-15 to exit #272 (which is 800 North in Orem) turn left heading east. Stay on 800 North through Orem to the mouth of the canyon. Stay in left hand lane, which will drop onto Hwy 189. Continue up the canyon approximately 7 miles to Scenic Route #92 which is the first left after the tunnel. Sundance is 2 miles up the canyon on the left. Description: Sundance sits in a gorgeous setting against the magnificent 12,000 ft. Mount Timpanogos. Whether you enjoy alpine skiing, snowboarding or cross country skiing, Sundance offers something for all winter enthusiasts. In addition to 42 alpine ski runs over 500 acres, Sundance offers 26 kilometers of groomed cross country trails and 10 kilometers of separate snowshoeing trails. Whether you are a novice or experienced skier, Sundance’s team of PSIA certified ski and snowboard instructors are experienced in teaching all levels of adults and children. Wolf Mountain
Location: Wolf Mountain Resort is located in Eden, Utah, approximately 1 hour driving time north of the Salt Lake International Airport.
